Security forces held at least 42 irregular migrants traveling in a minibus in eastern Turkey on Aug. 29.

Acting on a tip, local gendarmerie forces in the Van province pulled over a minibus en route from the town of Erciş to Adilcevaz.

At least 137 irregular migrants were held by security forces across Turkey on Aug. 28.

According to her, they all want to continue their journey to Western Europe, primarily Germany.

The entrenching work, as well as the construction of a modular wall and observation tower to prevent illegal activity, are underway on the Turkish-Iranian border.

The mounting process in the first 5-kilometer (3-mile) portion of the wall, which seeks to prevent the entrance of irregular migrants into Turkey through the Iranian border, has been completed.

A total of 63 irregular migrants were held in the Turkish capital Ankara, security sources said on July 31.

Provincial police teams carried out an operation in the Gölbaşı district, and the migrants, all of them Afghan nationals, and two others were rounded up. Their deportation process is underway.

Concerns over a potential new influx of irregular migrants have grown in recent weeks as new videos posted on social media showed a stream of Afghans entering Turkey through its eastern border with Iran.

The Turkish Coast Guard on July 18 rescued 26 irregular migrants illegally pushed back by Greek forces, according to a Turkish security source.

The BBC footage shows Greek border policemen pushing asylum seekers in an extremely brutal way, shooting in the air, not giving them water, insulting them... while poor people can barely keep their balance in an overcrowded boat that is on their way to the EU coast.

He said that Greece supported an EU future of Turkey provided it refrained from exploiting immigration and respecting international law

Greece on June 7 announced that applications for asylum filed by individuals in Turkey will no longer be accepted. 

"Turkey is designated a safe country for asylum seekers from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Somalia," said a joint decision by the Greek Foreign Ministry as well as the Migration and Asylum Ministry.
