Artist Weiwei promises to release film on refugee crisis

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has announced that he will release a documentary film about the migrant crisis next year.

Ai was speaking at a news conference in Bern on 27 April to mark the opening of the “Chinese Whispers” exhibition, featuring around 150 works of contemporary Chinese artists at theZentrum Paul Klee museum.

Artist Ai Weiwei to host first exhibition in Cycladic Art Museum in Athens

Prominent Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei will present his works created in his studio in Lesvos at the Museum of Cycladic Art, in Athens from May 20 to October 30, 2016.

This is the first time his work will be exhibited in an archaeological museum, the museum said in a statement.

Dissident Chinese artist Ai WeiWei visited the refugee and immigrant camp in Idomeni on Wednesday declaring his support to those who have arrived in Greece and are now trapped in the country.

The artist walked in the muddy camp condemning the poor conditions and saying the situation is a ‘big violation of human rights’.

 

Ai Weiwei recreates photo of drowned Syrian toddler Alan

Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has recreated the heartbreaking image of the drowned 3-year-old Syrian child, Alan Kurdi, by staging a photo of himself lying face down on a beach on Lesvos island, Greece.

Ai Weiwei closed his eyes and lay face down on a pebbled beach imitating the lifeless body of Alan who lost his life while trying to reach Greece with his family.

Ai Weiwei pulls Danish exhibitions in protest at migrant law

Dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei said he would withdraw from two exhibitions in Denmark to protest against an asylum law passed by parliament that included rules on confiscating valuables from migrants to help pay for their stay. 

His decision is the latest in a cultural backlash against Denmark which on Jan. 26 passed the measures aimed at deterring refugees from seeking asylum.

Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei announced on Wednesday he is closing down his exhibition ”Ruptures” at Faurschou Foundation in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a protest against the new law that allows Danish authorities to seize asylum seekers’ personal valuables to pay for the cost of their staying.
