Temperatures drop as snow falls in mountainous regions

Very low temperatures, rain and snowfall accompanied by strong winds were the main characteristics of the weather in Greece on Thursday.

The lowest temperatures recorded by the Meteo service stations of Athens National Observatory on Thursday were -6.4C in the village Vlasti of Kozani, -4.7C in Vytina, in Arcadia, Peloponnese and -4.7C in Mavrolithari, central Greece.

Man, 24, charged with arson over Arcadia blazes

A 24-year-old man was detained on arson charges on Friday in connection with a wildfire in the area of Palaiohori in the municipality of southern Kynouria in the Arcadia prefecture of the Peloponnese. 

The fire broke out on three separate fronts virtually simultaneously, fuelling the authorities' suspicions that it was a case of arson. 

Body found in burned car in Arcadia

Police and the fire service are investigating a fire that destroyed a car on the old Megalopolis-Kalamata national highway in Arcadia, after finding a burned body in the driver's seat, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported Tuesday.
According to information, the car had been parked at the highway exit leading to Megalopolis.

Moderate tremor shakes central Peloponnese

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook the area southeast of the village of Dimitsana, located in the region of Arcadia in the central Peloponnese on Thursday afternoon.
According to the automatic solution provided by Athens' Geodynamic Institute, the tremor was recorded at a depth of 11.5 kilometers.
No injuries or damages were reported.

High risk of forest fires on Monday, Greek authorities warn

The risk of forest fires across the country is very high on Monday, according to the General Secretariat for Civil Protection which highlighted the prefectures of Attica, Evia, Viotia, Fthiotida, Fokida, Larissa, Magnisia, Corinthia, Argolida, Arkadia, Lakonia and Hania as the most vulnerable - at level 4.
