Ljubljana – The environment and economy ministries have withdrawn a planned provision allowing construction of manufacturing facilities which use hazardous materials in water protected areas. The decision was welcomed by the Greens Slovenia party, and by environmentalists, who however also want the other contentious provision removed.

Former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz wins a strong vote but cannot make the cabinet himself.

The big winner in the Austrian elections is the party of former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. The formation is taking 7% more than the previous vote and will have 11 deputies more than it has before.

Chancellor Angela Merkel's efforts to forge a three-way ruling coalition could stretch into the weekend after the parties missed Merkel's Thursday deadline and failed to reach agreement on key issues such as migration and finances, reported Reuters. 

The European Parliament has given its agreement for the implementation of the trade agreement with Canada.

European MPs supported CETA with a majority of nearly 60%. The groups of the EPP, the Liberals and the Conservatives voted for the agreement on free trade and investments.

In an open letter, the Greens have called on President Rumen Radev to impose a veto on the Concessions Act adopted by Parliament in its last few working days.

According to the party, in the law, MPs have harmed greatly public interest.
