British energy giant BP reported Tuesday a net profit of $8.2 billion for the first quarter, recovering from a record loss a year earlier as it ended operations in Russia after the Ukraine invasion.

Shell profit up as high oil prices offset Russia hit
British energy giant Shell yesterday said its net profit jumped 26 percent in the first quarter as soaring oil prices offset a sizeable charge linked to its Russia exit.
Profit after tax leapt to $7.1 billion (6.7 billion euros) compared with a year earlier, Shell said in a statement.
BP, Equinor exiting stakes in Rosneft
British energy giant BP announced on Feb. 27 that it was pulling its 19.75-percent stake in Rosneft following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
London-based BP has held a 19.75 percent stake in Rosneft since 2013. That stake was valued at $14 billion at the time of the announcement.

Oil majors face backlash as era of big profits returns
British oil giants Shell and BP, U.S, firm ExxonMobil and France's TotalEnergies announced last week 2021 profits totalling a whopping $66.7 billion.

Friends of the Earth plans to file a lawsuit against Royal Dutch Shell, accusing the oil company of failing to act on climate change, the environmental activist group said on May 29.
Large Oil Refinery in Texas is on Fire
TEXAS CITY, TX (WCMH) -- First responders are investigating after a massive fire and explosion were reported at a Valero refinery in Texas City, Texas, according to KPRC.
Investigators are on scene and are working to learn more.

S. Dakota Keystone pipeline shut down after oil spill
The Oil company TransCanada announced on Nov. 16 that it has shut down the Keystone pipeline in South Dakota because it discovered 210,000 gallons of oil has spilled from the pipeline.
