A total of 566,494 women will receive SMS within the framework of the breast cancer screening programme

More than 20,000 women, equivalent to the population of a city like Grevena in northern Greece or big Cycladic islands including Naxos and Syros, have been diagnosed with breast cancer at an early stage, with greater prospects of curing the disease, thanks to the national Fofi Gennimata initiative.

The breast cancer screening program began in June 2022 for women aged 50 to 69.

The Ministry of Health is extending the age limits of the Fofi Gennimata Program for breast cancer screening. As part of new European guidelines, the program will be extended to women aged 45 to 74, compared to the current age group of 50 to 69.

The cancer screening appointment system will be under the control of family physicians, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has announced in his statements for the breast cancer awareness month.

Istanbul's landmark Galata Tower illuminated in blue and orange to mark World Cancer Day.

The famous tourist attraction will remain lit from twilight until Feb. 6.

Every Feb. 4 World Cancer Day aims to raise awareness about the deadly disease and encourage prevention, detection and treatment.

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women, but if it is diagnosed at an early stage, there is a good chance it can be successfully treated, according to an expert.
