Bulgarians in Serbia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said in a televised interview for Serbian TV "Pink" that Bulgaria does not recognize national minorities, but on the other hand, reacted to the situation of the Bulgarian national minority in Serbia.

Members of the ethnic Bulgarian community in eastern Serbia want the town of Dimitrovgrad - where they make up the majority of the population - to regain its old name Tsaribrod, they told a press conference in Sofia on Wednesday.

Bulgarian Vice President Margarita Popova has thrown its support behind the united organization that is to represent Bulgarians living in Serbia, the President's press office has said.

The body is to be set up in the months to come, Bulgaria's Consul General Atanas Krastin is quoted as telling Popova at a meeting in the Serbian city in Nis.
