Controversial playground near Atatürk's mausoleum removed

A controversial playground constructed near the Ankara mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of the Turkish Republic,was removed after prompting anger on social media on Sept. 25. 

Earlier, The General Staff had announced it had unanimously decided to demolish the playground.

Turkish architects sue Ankara Mayor over 'Transformers' statue

Turkey?s Chamber of Architects and Engineers (TMMOB) has filed a criminal complaint against Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek over his controversial decision to erect a ?Transformers-esque? statue in the Turkish capital.

TMMOB?s Ankara branch head Tezcan Karaku? Candan told daily Hürriyet on April 8 that Gökçek ?wasted taxpayer?s money.?

One killed in mine collapse in northern Turkey

A coal mine collapse in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak on March 10 has killed one miner and left two injured.

The accident took place 550 meters below ground level in a mine in Zonguldak's Ere?li district, operated by the state Turkish Coal Institute's (TKK) Armutçuk branch, after piles of coal collapsed during mining activities at about 4:00 a.m. on March 10.
