Code Orange heat warning in five western, southwestern counties, Code Yellow in almost all country

The National Weather Administration (ANM)has issued a Code Orange warning of heat and high thermal discomfort in force on Monday in the counties of Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti and Dolj, where highs are expected to get to 41 degrees Celsius. Also, all throughout today, a Code Yellow of similar phenomena will be in force in almost all of Romania.

Turkey faces second hottest July in last 51 years

Turkey witnessed the second hottest July last month, according to data by the State Meteorological Service.

For years, the average temperature in July across the country has been 24.5 degrees Celsius, whereas this July, temperature climbed up by 1.8 degrees Celsius, reaching 26.3 degrees Celsius.

Turkey's northwestern province of Çanakkale broke a 92-year-old "June heat record" with 37.2 degrees Celsius temperature on June 28 as recorded by the Turkish State Meteorological Service.

The last time when the province recorded a temperature as high as 36.8 degrees Celsius was on June 24, 2007.

Romania's National Weather Administration (ANM) updated its weather warning on Thursday, issuing a Code Yellow warning of unstable weather during the day in mountainous areas, in Dobrogea, Moldavia and Muntenia, keeping in place a Code Red heat warning for the western parts of the country, Code Orange for Oltenia and most of Transylvania and the Code Yellow for the rest of the country.

Cold weather front hits Greece, with snow shutting highway

A cold weather front has hit Greece, sending temperatures plunging from the low 20s degrees Celsius (around 70 Fahrenheit) on Friday to well below freezing on Monday, and seeing snowfall in central Athens.

Authorities appealed to the public to restrict their movements outside to the essential only, while the main highway leading north out of the capital was shut due to snowfall.
