1 in 4 Bulgarian Children Face Poverty Risk

A recent UNICEF report assessing 40 OECD and EU nations sheds light on Bulgaria's persistent child poverty, showcasing a reduction of 8.3% between 2014 and 2021. Despite this progress, Bulgaria maintains one of the highest child poverty rates in the EU, with a staggering 26% of Bulgarian children facing the risk of poverty.

ELSTAT – Risk of poverty for almost 1 in 2 people living in Greece

The population at risk of poverty or social exclusion rose to 28.9% of the country's population (3,043,869 people) in 2020, showing a decrease compared to 2019 by 1.1 percentage points (3,161,936 people corresponding to 30, 0% of the population), according to the latest data of the Income and Living Conditions Survey of Households 2020 of the Hellenic Statistical Authority.

UNICEF: Every Fifth Child in the World Lives in Extreme Poverty

Every fifth child in the world lives in extreme poverty and has less than $ 2 a day. This shows the results of a study by UNICEF and the International Labor Organization, the Bulgarian National Television reports. 

Almost half of the world's children live in "moderate" poverty, with only a third of them covered by social protection.

One in four children at risk of poverty in Europe

More than one in four children in Europe are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, which will have repercussions for them throughout life. On Monday 23 November MEPs debate a report urging EU countries to boost their efforts to combat child poverty and social inequalities. They will then vote on the report the following day.

Expert laments lack of measures to protect children from poverty


Greece has not been doing enough to fight child poverty, Deputy Ombudsman Giorgos Moschos told a parliamentary committee on Friday.

He told MPs on the equality and human rights committee that a panel of experts at the National Center for Social Research had come to this conclusion after studying a range of figures.
