With the Balkan situation so volatile, and public opinion so divided on issues relating to identity and self-determination, the word "nationalism" is getting a bad press.

Internationally acclaimed accordion and bandoneon virtuoso Richard Galliano will be on stage at the Athens Concert Hall on Thursday, February 21.

An ensemble of four acclaimed local trombonists - Spyros Vergis, Christos Giakkas, Yiannis Kaikis and Spyros Moschonas - presents "Deutscher Atem," a program of selected by works by Bach, Handel, Telemann, Beethoven, Speer, Wagner and Bruckner at the German Evangelical Church on Saturday, February 9. Doors open at 8 p.m. and admission costs 10 euros.

The Thessaloniki Concert Hall will screen George Bizet's "Carmen" live in high-definition from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The French romance is directed by Sir Richard Eyre, conducted by Louis Langree and stars Clementine Margaine, Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna and Alexander Vinogradov. The performance is in the original French, with Greek surtitles. Doors open at 7.55 p.m.

The Campion School Music Department presents its annual staff concert on Friday, January 25, with proceeds going toward the victims of last summer's deadly fires in eastern Attica.
