Emergency Declared in Bulgaria's Hitrino over Gas Exposure

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the northeastern Bulgarian village of Hitrino, national media report.

"There is a genuine disaster in the village," Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov has said.

"From today's point of view, the decision on [Saturday] for Hitrino to be [fully] evacuated is a right one."

Emergency teams are to begin draining the dangerous materials out of several tanks that derailed in Hitrino in northeastern Bulgaria on Saturday morning.

Seven people died after one of the cisterns exploded. Twenty-nine were injured, while dozens of families lost their home after the blast left buildings in a 300m perimeter completely ravaged.

Cheapest Offer for Construction of Bulgaria's Hemus Highway at BGN 5.4 M/Km

A total of 10 price offers have been offered for the design and construction of 9.3 km of the Hemus highway - the section between Yablanitsa and Boaza.

The cheapest offer is for BGN 5.4 M/km.

The indicative value of the public procurement offer is BGN 80 M, VAT excluded, reported the road agency.

Construction of Sofia's Subway Third Line Launched

The construction of Sofia's third subway line has started, reported bTV.

Construction works will be entirely underground and no re-routing of traffic will be necessary. The tunnel to be built will be 850 metres long.

After a few months, the construction of the eighth subway station will start as well. It will be located on Vladimit Vazov Blvd.

Western parts of Greece bear brunt of downpours

Hundreds of homes and streets were flooded in Messolonghi, Preveza, Nafpaktos, Patra and other parts of Western Greece on Saturday due to heavy rains.

In Messolonghi in particular, local authorities had to bring out earth-moving machines to build an embankment that would help divert floodwater from the local technical college after a pumping station nearby was damaged by lightning.

Erdogan to drive first car passing Istanbul’s new Eurasia Tunnel

One of Turkey’s mega projects, the Eurasia Tunnel, which allows automobiles transit access between the Asian and European sides of Istanbul under the Bosporus strait, will be transited by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in an official test drive on Saturday. President Erdogan will drive from Europe to Asia through the tunnel in his official car.
