Turkish prosecutors have launched an investigation into Alaattin Çakıcı, a convicted mafia leader, who threatened a group of journalists in an open letter.
Turkey ranks 75th in corruption perceptions index amid continued downfall
Turkey has ranked 75th in Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index 2016, falling nine places from 2015 and adding to its dramatic decline over the past four years.
According to the results, Turkey scored 41 in the index, a one-point decrease from 42 in 2015. It shared the 75th rank with Bulgaria, Kuwait and Tunisia, decreasing from its 66th rank in 2015.
45 percent of Turks think corruption is widespread in country: Survey
Some 45 percent of Turkish respondents of an annual Transparency International survey think corruption has gotten worse over the last four years, while 29 percent think there is less corruption.

Corruption is the world?s biggest issue. According to the OECD, the cost of bribery to the world economy is $1 trillion; add environmental and social destruction to this heavy cost.

Turkey’s G20 presidency and corruption
As of Monday, Dec. 1, Turkey took over the presidency of the G20 from Australia. About 15 days ago, Turkey announced in Brisbane that its priorities would be investment, energy, trade, participatory development, climate change, SMEs and integrating developing countries into the world economy.
However, there is one more issue that was dropped âinto its lapâ: Corruption.
