CHP appeals to high court for annulment of post-coup decree laws

Turkey's main opposition party has appealed to the Constitutional Court for the annulment of one of eight decree laws issued by the government since the declaration of a state of emergency in the aftermath of the July 15 failed coup attempt, on the grounds that it violated the Turkish constitution. 

CHP to appeal to Turkey's Constitutional Court over post-coup attempt decree laws

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) will appeal to the Constitutional Court for the annulment of all decree laws issued under Turkey's ongoing state of emergency, imposed after the failed coup attempt of July 15.

CHP Deputy Chair Levent Gök will submit the appeal to the Constitutional Court on Sept. 23.

Decree laws cannot be taken to high court, gov't tells CHP

Decree laws issued by the government based on its authority granted by the state of emergency cannot be taken to the Constitutional Court for annulment, a senior government official has said, in reply to a vow by Turkey's main opposition leader to apply to the high court to annul what he called undemocratic measures taken by the government in the aftermath of the July 15 failed coup attempt.
