A pistachio tree, estimated to be 600-700 years old, is protected and cared for by neighborhood residents in Turkey's most important pistachio cultivation center, the southeastern province of Gaziantep.

Some 113 historical artifacts have been seized in an anti-smuggling operation in southeastern Turkey, a security source said on Feb. 1. 

Acting on a tip-off, gendarmerie forces conducted a raid in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep province, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Some of the suspects in the deadly Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) bomb attack in the capital Ankara two years ago received training in the Syrian border city of Tel Abyad for 40 days, according to a secret witness' testimony in the ongoing case's fifth hearing, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 25.

A father who acted as a shield to protect his son during a fire exchange was killed in the southeast province of Gaziantep on Aug. 8.

The incident occurred in Gaziantep's Şehitkamil district. The unidentified suspects opened fire from one vehicle to another vehicle with long-barreled weapons due to unknown reasons while Mehmet Kızılırmak, his sons, and wife were on the same street.
