Two metro stations evacuated over bomb scare

Police closed down and evacuated two stations on the Athens metro system on Thursday in response to two anonymous bomb threats.

Bomb-disposal experts have been dispatched to Egaleo and Aghia Marina stations after two callers told the police shortly after 1.30 p.m. that two explosive devices were timed to go off at the stations at 3.40 p.m.

Bomb detonated outside labor ministry

An explosive device was discovered in a backpack outside the entrance of the Labor Ministry on Stadiou street, central Athens early on Monday, after an anonymous call to Efymerida ton Syntakton newspaper at 1.20 a.m. warned that a bomb would go off after 40 minutes.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and subsequently detonated the device in three controlled explosions.

Turkish scientists unveil unmanned off-road vehicle

Turkish scientists on July 6 unveiled an unmanned off-road vehicle developed for tasks such as border patrols and bomb disposal.

Developed by a team at Ankara's Middle East Technical University under Bu?ra Koku, the tractor-like vehicle can map its own route to avoid obstacles and is likely to see service with the Turkish armed forces.

Bomb scare at Thessaloniki courthouse a hoax


Bomb disposal experts called to the main courthouse in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Tuesday following an anonymous telephone call warning of a bomb have said that the threat was a hoax.

The call shortly after 11 a.m. to one of the court's offices.

Police evacuated the premises and called in experts to scour the building for explosives.
