Indie Playground | Athens | June 1-2

The Indie Playground Festival, part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, returns for a second year to Playground 260 (260 Pireos) on June 1-2. The event features performances by renowned and emerging Greek indie, alternative rock, pop and electronica artists, including Larry Gus, Deaf Radio, AMKA, Whereswilder, Prompt, Kooba Tercu, Metaman and Vassilina. Admission is free.

Subset | Athens | June 10-14

The Athens Epidaurus Festival presents the multifaceted Subset Festival in co-production with the Athens Conservatoire (17-19 Vasileos Georgiou B). Diverse types of musical creations are incorporated into various artistic trends at the renovated conservatory venues, presenting soloists and ensembles, established and up-and-coming artists alike, and open-call workshops.

Medea | Athens | July 9-11

Prepare for a riveting twist on ancient Greek drama with Australian director Simon Stone's modern reinterpretation of "Medea," as part of the 2024 Athens Epidaurus Festival (aefestival.gr) at the Pallas Theater (5 Voukourestiou).

Monument is ancient, not the art

Stage director Katerina Evangelatou is midway through her second term as artistic director of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival, the country's biggest cultural event. She assumed the post in extremely troubled times in 2019, having to contend with the Covid pandemic, and is now sailing in much calmer waters, with experience and confidence.
