The process of Ukraine's accession to the EU will progress "much faster" than usual, predicts Margrethe Vestager.

The European Commission said on Wednesday it was taking Ireland to the European Court of Justice for its failure to recover up to 13 billion euros (.3 billion) of tax due from Apple Inc , a move labeled as "regrettable" by Dublin, according to Reuters.

The European Commission on Thursday fined US social media giant Facebook EUR 110 million ($120 million) for providing incorrect and misleading information on its takeover of WhatsApp, AFP reported.

European competition officials have suspended their review of General Electric's proposed $14 billion acquisition of the energy business of French rival Alstom.

The European Commission's suspension of the review procedural and does not signify a major barrier to winning approval, GE spokesman Seth Martin said on May 11.

The EU is widely expected to accuse on Wednesday US search giant Google of abusing its dominant market position.

An ongoing probe has concentrated on the question whether Google used its position in internet search to advance its other services since November 2010.

The European Commission has decided to ask all member states to provide information about their tax rulings to ensure compliance with the EU's state aid rules.
