Athens Ferris wheel comes down

Work began Tuesday on the dismantling of a Ferris wheel installed at Syntagma Square which authorities have deemed not to meet the necessary safety regulations. The City of Athens said that the private company which set up the wheel did not supply the necessary safety certificates.

Red tape blamed for wheel debacle

The private company that installed a Ferris wheel in Syntagma Square, central Athens, for the holidays - which will now be dismantled because it reportedly violated safety regulations - said in a statement Thursdy that it had asked for an extension to produce all the necessary safety certificates but its request was turned down by the Athens municipal authorities.

Skopje Starts Building London-Style Big Wheel

Construction workers started laying the foundations on Wednesday for the giant observation wheel that will stand on top of a bridge on the Vardar River in central Skopje.

The Skopje 'eye' will have a diameter of 57 meters. Along with the pedestrian bridge on which it will stand, the entire structure will be 73 metres high.
