The world's largest unprotected Ferris wheel opened in the Chinese city of Weifang, Shandong province, TASC reported.

Red tape blamed for wheel debacle
The private company that installed a Ferris wheel in Syntagma Square, central Athens, for the holidays - which will now be dismantled because it reportedly violated safety regulations - said in a statement Thursdy that it had asked for an extension to produce all the necessary safety certificates but its request was turned down by the Athens municipal authorities.

Athens municipal official resigns over Ferris wheel debacle
The City of Athens official responsible for cultural events, Christos Tentomas, was forced to resign late on Wednesday over a debacle with a Ferris wheel installed on downtown Syntagma Square for the holidays.

The City of Athens on Wednesday issued a press release calling for a Ferris wheel installed on Syntagma Square in the city center to be removed following a damning safety report from the Attica Regional Authority.

Skopje Starts Building London-Style Big Wheel
Construction workers started laying the foundations on Wednesday for the giant observation wheel that will stand on top of a bridge on the Vardar River in central Skopje.
The Skopje 'eye' will have a diameter of 57 meters. Along with the pedestrian bridge on which it will stand, the entire structure will be 73 metres high.
