A Dutch journalist who was deported from Turkey after being detained during clashes between Kurdish rebels and Turkish security forces vowed on Sept.10 to return to the restive region "as soon as possible".

Frederike Geerdink was detained at around 2 a.m., as she was following the Democratic Peoples' Party's (HDP) program.

Frederike Geerdink's brief detention in January prompted an outcry from rights groups and a protest by the Dutch foreign minister, whilst deepening fears about the erosion of press freedom under President Tayyip Erdo?an.

Turkish prosecutor requests acquittal of Dutch reporter
A Turkish prosecutor on April 8 requested the acquittal of a Dutch journalist specialising in Kurdish issues who was accused of "terrorist propaganda" for the oulawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Frederike Geerdink, who is based in the Kurdish-majority southeastern city of Diyarbakir, had been briefly detained in January after authorities raided her home.
IPI concerned over case against Turkey-based Dutch journalist
The International Press Institute (IPI) has expressed concern over reports that Diyarbak?r-based Dutch journalist Fréderike Geerdink could face up to five years in prison in Turkey on accusations that she spread terrorist propaganda on social media.
