Today, the world marks the International Day of Embrace. The day was first celebrated in 1986 in the United States, but quickly spread to other countries. The "tradition" that is observed on this day is to give friendly hugs, even to strangers.
Twitter embraces National Hugging Day with social media hugfest
The world wide web embraces Hugging Day on January 21. The annual hugfest was created by Kevin Zaborney from Michigan in 1986 to encourage everyone to hug each other more often. The idea caught on and, Greece, too, joined in the hugs.
