French former Olympiakos football player and the club’s current strategic advisor met with visiting French President Emmanuel Macron in Athens, Friday morning. During their encounter at the French Archaeological School, where the French politician was visiting with his wife Brigitte, Karembeu gifted a jersey of the Greek champions to Mr. Macron with his name on the back.

Macron calls for efforts to tackle climate change

Security to be beefed up in Athens for Macron

More than 2,000 police officers are to be deployed across Athens for a scheduled visit this week that the government is keen to use to exploit its narrative that Greece is turning a corner. 

Greek authorities have been beefing up security, in cooperation with their French counterparts, ahead of Macron's two-day visit which is scheduled to begin on Thursday.

Gov't shifts focus to Macron visit and TIF

The government is gearing up for a return to work next week with preparations for two key events at the top of the agenda: a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron scheduled for September 7 and 8 and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) a few days after that. According to sources, Tsipras's first meetings are due on Tuesday and Wednesday.
