Frozen state pension

Hundreds of thousands of pensioner cases which since 2015 have included claims for retroactive amounts for cuts deemed illegal by the Council of State, but also others, concerning the return of interest as the refunds of the main pensions became interest-free, or the recalculation of pensions, are piled up in administrative courts around the country.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç has strongly criticized the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for its recent decision to rule against Türkiye in an individual case filed by a teacher convicted of affiliation with FETÖ, the organization behind the 2016 failed coup attempt.

The Declic grassroots movement staged on Friday a choreographed protest in Bucharest's Victoriei Square, with approximately 100 people unfurling three 30-meter-long banners that read "Cut special pensions". The Declic community is calling on the government to finalize the bill that scraps retirement benefits that are not duly covered by contributions to the pension pot.
