Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has met with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors' summit in Brazil.

"I met with Minister Mehmet Şimşek to discuss how Türkiye and the United States can work together to address crucial regional issues," Yellen wrote on the social media platform X.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Thursday discussed "the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza" and steps that could be taken on it at the G20 in Rio de Janeiro, a Turkish diplomatic source said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after visiting the United Arab Emirates, making a rare trip abroad as Moscow seeks to reassert itself on the global stage.

The presidents of the United States of America and China, Joseph Biden and Xi Jinping, will meet today at the Filoli estate, 30 miles south of San Francisco, where they will discuss bilateral and global issues for about four hours, sources familiar with the plan of the meeting told the Voice of America (VOA).

This year's G20 Summit, being held under the main theme of "One Earth, One Family, One Future," has kicked off on Sept. 9 with the official welcoming ceremony also attended by President Erdoğan.

The G20 leaders participating in the summit were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India at the Bharat Mandapam convention center. 

US Vice President Kamala Harris, Chinese premier Li Qiang and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov attended an East Asia summit in Indonesia on Thursday, offering an opportunity for direct, high-level diplomacy between the rivals.

US President Joe Biden on Sunday expressed disappointment that Chinese leader Xi Jinping would not attend the G20 summit in India this week, as Washington seeks to repair relations with Beijing.

Asked about Xi reportedly not planning to join the gathering in New Delhi, Biden told reporters, "I am disappointed, but I am going to get to see him," without elaborating.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Layen, stated that she does not support the idea of a boycott of the G20 summit if Russian leader Vladimir Putin participates in it.
