Two runaways who had escaped from a prison in the western Turkish province of Manisa have been found by the local gendarmerie units sleeping near a road, Doğan News Agency reported on Feb. 28. 

Nine people have been killed and 28 have been wounded in a bus accident in the southeastern district of Silopi in Şırnak, Doğan News Agency reported on Jan. 12.

Former Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz’s eldest son Mehmet Yavuz Yılmaz was found dead in his bed in Istanbul on Dec. 16, Doğan News Agency reported.

The Diyarbakır Bar Association has filed a criminal complaint against pro-government journalists Cem Küçük and Fuat Uğur after the former suggested torture tactics that could be used against suspects tried in connection to Turkey’s July 2016 coup attempt.

An Ankara prosecutor filed an indictment against main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul lawmaker Sezgin Tanrıkulu on Sept. 8, after he voiced concerns over allegations that an armed drone in the southeastern province of Hakkari shot four citizens, leaving one dead. 

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled on July 18 that a Turkish court granting the National Intelligence of Turkey (MİT) permission to intercept all domestic and international communications between April 8 and May 30, 2005 constituted a violation of privacy in breach of the law.

A police officer who shot and killed a 12-year-old child in the Cizre district of the southeastern province of Şırnak has been sentenced to 13 years and four months in prison. 

The special operations police officer, Mehmet N.G., was sentenced by the Cizre First Court of Serious Crimes for killing Nihat Kazanhan, Doğan News Agency reported on Nov. 11.
