Two-thirds of the Temple of Zeus, whose original state's copy is exhibited in the Berlin Pergamon Museum, have been unearthed during excavations in the ancient city of Magnesia, located in the Germencik district of the western province of Aydın.

Archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Magnesia, located in the western province of Aydın's Germencik district, have brought to light the entrance gate of the Temple of Magnesia Zeus, the replica of which is on display at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

Officials from the provincial environment and urbanization directorate in the western province of Aydın have imposed a fine of 24,000 Turkish Liras ($3,900) on a company for failing to fulfill its environmental commitments and polluting the Aydın Creek in the Germencik district.

The ancient city of Magnesia, where excavations have been ongoing for 30 years, remains underwater after rainfall over the weekend submerged parts of the excavated site. 

Located in the western province of Ayd?n's Germencik district, the 3rd century B.C. ancient city has turned into a lake with due to heavy rainfall and groundwater in the surrounding area.
