Police have dismantled an organized criminal gang that distributed drugs around Athens, authorities said on Saturday.

The operation led to the arrest of 24 people, aged between 20 and 71, who have been charged with violating drug laws and illegal weapons possession.

At least 10 Georgian members of a gang that burgled homes, mainly in Athens's affluent northern suburbs, were arrested on Tuesday during police raids of their hideouts across Attica.

So far the gang has been linked to more than 100 burglaries and robberies in the wider Attica area.

Attica police said on Wednesday that they have broken up a wide-reaching drug distribution network and made eight arrests.

The eight suspects - five Albanian nationals and three Greeks - were arrested in a police operation that spread across the city. Reports said the leader of the gang was a 35-year-old Albanian man.
