Highways in Bulgaria

Abundant snowfall and heavy traffic are expected across Bulgaria on Sunday as the worsening of the weather conditions will coincide with the last day of the festive period when many people will be returning from their holidays.

A yellow code for snowfall has been issued for all regions of Bulgaria on Sunday, with forecasts predicting the formation of snow cover.

Chinese companies have demonstrated interest towards major infrastructure projects in Bulgaria.

According to Bulgarian Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova, the Chinese have showed greatest interest towards the Cherno More (Black Sea) motorway, the planned tunnel under Shipka peak and the Ruse-Svilengrad road.

Bulgaria's government plans to build 635 kilometers of new motorways and repair 17,000 of existing main and secondary roads until 2022.

The repair works on the Hemus and Trakia motorways, which were paused for the high summer season, resumed on Tuesday.

A total of thirty kilometres of Hemus motorway between Shumen and Varna will be renovated, private bTV station informs.

The traffic on lot 2 of the Struma motorway between the Bulgarian towns of Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad, will be launched by the end of October.

This was announced by Bulgarian Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova, who inspected the construction works on the section of the motorway on Sunday.

Bulgarian Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova said on Tuesday that the section of Struma motorway between the town of Sandanski and the border checkpoint Kulata will be most likely launched on Friday evening.

Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova has vowed that repair works at roads leading to the Black Sea coast will stop on July 1 in order to ease traffic during the peak of the summer season.

A section of Bulgaria's Maritsa motorway linking Harmanli and Dimitrovgrad was officially opened on Thursday, bTV station reported.

The second lot of Bulgaria's Maritsa Motorway, covering the section between the town of Dimtrovgrad and the border checkpoint Kapitan Andreevo, will be fully completed by the end of May.

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov on Friday told the joint press conference he had with his Romanian and Serbian counterparts that, with respect to the common infrastructure, he wished to see a motorway built to link Bucharest, Sofia and Belgrade.
