ILO adds health and safety to workers’ fundamental rights

The International Labour Organization has elevated occupational health and safety to the status of a "fundamental right" for the world's workers, a "historic" decision that will mean new obligations for member states.    

Almost three million people die each year from work-related causes, the UN agency said.

Fewer women than men to regain employment during COVID recovery: ILO

Unemployment rate at 12.2% in January

Unemployment in Turkey was 12.2% in January, down 0.4 percentage points from the previous month, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data released on March 10. 

"The number of jobless aged 15 and over decreased by 1,000 to 3.9 million in January 2021 in the country compared to December 2020," it said in a statement.

Today is the World Day for Safety and Health at Work

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated anually on 28 April. For the first time, the International Labor Organization (ILO) celebrates this day in 2001.

According to ILO figures, each year, 2.2 million workers worldwide die because of work-related accidents and occupational diseases. Losses account for 4% of global gross domestic product.

UN: Almost Half a Billion People are Unemployed or Have no Access to a Good Job

Around half a billion people work fewer paid hours than they would like, or are not getting enough access to paid work, shows a study published by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Monday, which also forecasts that unemployment will rise by about 2.5 million this year, the UN reported.
