The Soul Peanuts | Athens | January 1

Celebrate the new year with the sounds of boogaloo, '60s RnB, and jazz-funk-soul compositions played by the talented Soul Peanuts. With the phenomenal Raphael Meleteas on the organ, Erik Panagopoulos on guitar, and Giannis Papadoulis on drums, the Soul Peanuts are an up-and-coming group on the Athenian music scene. The show will take place at Beatniks Road Bar in Exarchia (14 Koletti).

Jazz at the Museum | Athens | December 8

The B&E Goulandris Foundation (goulandris.gr) will end its "Visual Journeys" series of jazz concerts on December 8 with a performance by the Filippou & Lucaciu Duet featuring Natalia Manta. Vibraphone player Evi Filippou and bassist Robert Lucaciu explore a variety of 21st century compositions, skillfully balancing between jazz, free improvisation and traditional tunes.

BYS Trio | Athens | January 16-17

The BYS Trio, a jazz tribute band created by Greek double bass player Chrysostomos Boukalis in honor of the late Charlie Haden, will perform as part of the Jazzoo series of events at The Zoo in the northern Athens suburb of Halandri on January 16 and 17. The band plays compositions by Haden as well as others that featured in the American bandleader's repertoire.

Djangofest | Athens | September 14-15

In its 10th year, Djangofest will feature nine bands and five dance groups in a celebration of gypsy jazz music inspired by 20th-century Belgian Jean "Django" Reinhardt at the Technopolis complex in Athens' Gazi district. "Django" Reinhardt traveled through Europe performing solo and in a quintet during the World War II era.

Jeff Scott | Athens | April 23

The Ventus Ensemble and actor Argyris Xafis perform Jeff Scott's "Passion for Bach and Coltrane" at the Athens Concert Hall on Tuesday, April 23. Written for wind quintet, string quartet, jazz trio (piano, double bass, percussion) and orator, this work was inspired by the poetry of African-American poet A.B.

Chico Freeman Trio | Athens | December 15-18

Hailed as one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of the last four decades, an artist whose music embraces a diverse array of styles, from hip hop, funk, bebop and post-bop to the blues and melodies conjured from African and Asian scales, Chico Freeman is coming to Athens for a series of shows at the Half Note on December 15-18, along with double bassist Heiri Kanzig and drummer Michael Baker.
