New Zealand's Ex-PM Also Running for UN Top Job

Helen Clark, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, has officially announced she is running for the UN Secretary-General's office.

Clark, who at the moment heads the UN Development Program, is seen as a strong rival to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova. To date, the latter has been described as a "frontrunner" in the race.

Informal Hearings of Candidates for UN Chief to be Held on April 12-14

Between April 12 and 14, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly will hold informal dialogues with the seven candidates for UN Secretary-General who have been nominated so far.

This was stated in a letter released by UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft, outlining the rules and schedule of hearings.

Beşiktaş wins at Feyenoord in Champions League bid

Goals from Mustafa Pektemek and Kerim Koyunlu edged Beşiktaş past last season’s Dutch league runner-up Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, in the first leg game in Rotterdam on July 30.

Feyenoord scored a 95th-minute penalty but still succumbed 2-1 at home to Beşiktaş, putting the Turkish outfit in charge of the tie.
