KozloduyNPP Unit7 Agreement Sets No Financial Commitments for Bulgaria

The shareholder agreement with Westinghouse on Kozloduy NPP unit7 does not tie Bulgaria to any requirements for investments, state guarantees or mandatory purchase contracts.

The company issued a statement to shed light on the agreement, which was published on the website of the Kozloduy N-plant on Friday.

Former Energy Minister Dragomir Stoynev has emphasized that the contract signed with US Westinghouse Electric on unit 7 of the Kozloduy NPP does not involve its construction.

In a Friday interview for private TV station bTV, he noted that it was normal to hold meetings between the company and the major political parties in the case of such a large-scale investment.

Contract on Kozloduy NPP Unit 7 May Harm Arbitration over Belene NPP

An energy expert has said that the agreement with US Westinghouse on Kozloduy NPP's unit7 erodes Bulgaria's position in the arbitration case with Atomstroyexport over Belene NPP.

Westinghouse Electric announced on Friday that it had completed a shareholder agreement for an AP1000 unit at the Kozloduy NPP.

Bulgaria, Westinghouse Sign Shareholders' Agreement on Unit 7

Bulgaria's government announced Thursday a shareholders' agreement was signed with US-based company Westinghouse on the construction of Kozloduy NPP's Unit 7.

The document is due to be approved on by the next elected government after the early general vote on October 5, according to the Council of Ministers' press office, the Bulgarian National Radio reports.

Government Postpones Agreement With Westinghouse For Successors

Bulgaria's Government left the signing of the agreement on the new unit of the Kozloduy NPP with the US company Westinghouse to their successors, report Bulgarian-language media. 

“The decision on the nomination of Bulgaria's European Commissioner is also left to the next government,” said vice PM Daniela Bobeva at a news conference after Wednesday's government session. 

Bulgarian Energy Holding CEO Ivan Yonchev Leaves Office

Ivan Yonchev, CEO of the Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH), has been discharged to undergo an operation, BEH has announced on his website.

Yonchev leaves the office on his own request, citing ill health and a medical intervention after which it will take long for him to recover, according to the message.
