After the Easter respite, party leaders resume their pre-election campaigns on Tuesday, as we enter the last stretch before the European Parliament elections.

On the diplomatic front, the government in Athens is preparing for Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' planned visit to Ankara next Monday, where he will be meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Despite both being members of NATO, Greece is unlikely to ever feel comfortable with Turkey as its neighbor. Centuries of subjugation characterized by countless wars, pogroms, ethnic cleansing, and a genocide does that to people.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the 30th "Career Day" organized by the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) at the port of Piraeus on Saturday.

The statements on Friday by Archbishop Ieronymos and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during a joint visit to facilities of the Archdiocese of Athens in Dilesi, Viotia, Central Greece, demonstrated in the most emphatic way that the rift in relations between the Church and the government over the legislation on same-sex marriage has been largely bridged. 

Last week I attended the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The parliamentarians from 46 European states, including former Tory ministers, voted to accept Kosovo into membership despite loud objections from Serbia. 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday affirmed the amicable ties between his conservative government and the Orthodox Church.

"Our collaboration within the framework laid out by the institutions has been and remains exceptionally close," Mitsotakis said during a meeting with Archbishop Ieronymos in the town of Dilesi, in Greece's central Viotia region.

Archbishop Ieronymos, the leader of the influential Orthodox Church of Greece, on Friday denounced threats made by a nationalist party leader against deputies of the ruling New Democracy party.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Fragogiannis is set to land in Istanbul on Friday for talks with Turkish counterpart Burak Akcapar as part of the dialogue on the Positive Agenda between Greece and Turkey. 

The total cost of the project will exceed 3 billion euros, as Kyriakos Mitsotakis said - The PM, during his statement, also referred to the European dimension of funding through the Recovery Fund
