Student protests against India's citizenship law spread after clashes on campuses

Protests over a new citizenship law based on religion spread to student campuses across India on Dec. 16 as critics said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government was pushing a partisan agenda in conflict with India's founding as a secular republic.   

Indian minister wants compulsory prenatal sex tests

The Indian government children's minister has proposed the introduction of mandatory tests to determine the sex of an unborn child in a bid to counter the disturbing levels of female foeticide.

Prenatal sex tests are officially illegal in India, a policy designed to stop so many unborn girls being aborted by parents desperate for a boy.

Saudi employer cuts off woman’s hand

Kasturi Munirathinam’s right arm was cut off, allegedly by her employer, when she tried to escape from their house last week, where she was working as a domestic help.

Her family has stated that she was being tortured by her Saudi employers and her employers had been angered after she complained about the harassment she was facing, as BBC reports.

Serbian parliament speaker extends condolences to India

Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic Monday sent a message of condolences to Sumitra Mahajan, the speaker of the the lower house of the Indian parliament.

Her message was also addressed to Mohammad Hamid Ansari, the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, the Council of States, over the loss of life caused by the heat wave that has hit India.
