Hunt continues for escaped prisoner from Athens court

Police continued their manhunt on Wednesday for a 43-year-old man who manage to escape from an Athens courthouse on Tuesday before he was to appear before an investigative magistrate.

The suspect, a member of the Roma community, managed to break away from his guards during a fracas caused by his friends and relatives who showed up at the court and attacked police.

Elderly man in Athens arrested for allegedly killing ill wife

Greek police on Wednesday detained a 90-year-old man for allegedly killing his 87-year-old wife in their home in the northern Athenian suburb of Marousi, according to state-run news agency ANA-MPA.
The elderly man reportedly confessed to the act, saying he did it so that his wife - who suffered from dementia - could find peace and to avoid burdening their daughter.

Leroy Merlin calls for protection of foreign firms after Rouvikonas attack

The French-headquartered furniture and homeware chain Leroy Merlin on Monday issued a statement following Sunday's attack on its premises in Maroussi, north of Athens, by members of the anarchist group Rouvikonas.

In the statement, the company expressed relief that "this violent attack did not leave any victims."

Imam sought for Athens mosque

The Education Ministry's committee for the new mosque in Athens (NPID) announced on Monday that Muslims who legally reside in Attica can apply to become an imam.

The committee said that interested parties can submit their applications from December 20 until January 18 at the Education Ministry building in Maroussi, northern Athens.
