Poros to be Greece’s third ‘green’ island

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the island of Poros will be included in the GR-Eco Islands sustainability program, following the islands of Astypalaia and Halki, speaking at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), in Dubai on Friday.

Poros will become the third "green" island under the government's GR-eco Islands national initiative, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitostakis has announced at the COP28 conference in Dubai.

The transformation of the island would take place in collaboration with United Arab Emirates state-owned green energy company Masdar, he added.

UAE sought to use COP28 ‘to advance oil deals’

The United Arab Emirates planned to exploit meetings with foreign governments arranged due to its COP28 hosting role to strike fossil fuel deals, according to leaked documents obtained by the BBC.

The leaked briefing notes were prepared by the UAE's COP28 team for summit president Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber ahead of meetings with foreign governments between July and October this year.

UAE to invest $54 bln in energy and triple renewable sources

The United Arab Emirates plans to triple its supply of renewable energy and invest up to $54 billion over the next seven years to meet its growing energy demands.

EBRD and IFC provide EUR 215mn loan for wind farm in Serbia

The EBRD and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are providing a EUR 215 million loan to Cibuk 1 wind farm, the bank has announced.

This is the largest wind project in Serbia and the Western Balkans to date, and the investment underscores EBRD's commitment to investing in renewable energy, a statement said.

Solar Plane Completes 2nd Leg of Round-the-Globe Trip

Solar Impulse 2, the aircraft powered only by sunlight, has landed in India on Tuesday after covering about 1,500 kilometres during a 15-hour flight from Oman.

The Swiss-built  single-seat airctaft that weighs only 2,300 kilogrammes, landed in Ahmedabad where it will make a four-day stopover before flying off to Varanasi, in northeastern India.
