Four Years in Prison or a USD 40,000 Fine in Kenya for the use of Plastic Bags
Kenyans, who produce, sell or even use plastic bags, risk being punished by up to four years in prison or a fine of USD 40,000. Since Monday, the world's most stringent law aimed at reducing plastic pollution has come into force, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kenya imposes tough law on plastic bags
Kenyans producing, selling or even using plastic bags will risk imprisonment of up to four years or fines of $40,000 from Aug. 28, as the world's toughest law aimed at reducing plastic pollution came into effect.
The East African nation joins more than 40 other countries that have banned, partly banned or taxed single use plastic bags, including China, France, Rwanda, and Italy.

Poll: Only one in ten shoppers to use plastic bags after January
Only one in ten Greek shoppers say they will continue to use plastic bags in supermarkets after the introduction of a 3 cent levy as of January 2018, according to a new poll.
According to the survey, conducted by the Research Institute of Retail Consumer Goods (IELKA), two in three consumers are in favor of banning the all-too-familiar polythene bags.
Plastic bag charge to be introduced from January
From January 1 next year Greeks will have to pay 3 cents for lightweight plastic bags such as those currently given away at supermarkets and other stores. The charge will rise to 0.07 euros from January 1, 2019.

Turkish automotive production up 20 percent in the first half
Turkish automotive production rose 20 percent year on year to 869,158 vehicles in the first half, with output up 8 percent to 141,161 vehicles in June, Turkey's automotive producers' body said.

Charge aims to wean Greeks off plastic bags
Plastic bags will cost up to 8 cents each in supermarkets as of July 2018, as a bill from the Environment Ministry is to be passed that will finally incorporate into Greek law a European Union directive dating from 2015 that should have been introduced last November.

Restrictions on plastic bags in Turkey due by 2018
The use of plastic bags in markets and stores will be restricted across Turkey starting in 2018, the Turkish Retailers' Federation (TPF) announced on March 28, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
TPF head Mustafa Altunbilek said the decision was made in an effort to reduce waste, adding that they were planning to motivate customers to use cloth or other non-plastic bags.

Police, and citizens, fish marijuana packages out of sea
Several duct tape-wrapped plastic bags filled with marijuana have been found floating in the sea near Dubrovnik, Croatia.
According to the website index.hr, such discoveries have been made 11 times so far, netting a total of 267 kilograms of the drug.
