Boat with refugees hit Coast Guard patrol vessel

An old wooden boat that was carrying refugees and migrants to Lesvos island hit at 11:30 on Thursday a Coast Guard patrol vessel due to rough seas and strong winds blowing in the area.

The accident was recorded half nautical mile north of Molyvos, Lesvos island. The Coast Guard rescued 31 refugees while, according to information, 8 persons are still missing.

Mountain of refugee life-jackets on Lesbos (shocking photos)

Thousands of life jackets piled up on a beach near the town Molyvos in the Greek island of Lesbos formed a small hill. The images taken by AFP photographer Aris Messinis indicate the proportions of the refugee crisis that has now reached other northern European countries, and led to Europe scrambling to find solutions while revealing divisions within EU member-states.

Expats, tourists, foreigners create a triptych of humanity! (video)

Expat Eric Kempson, aged 60, his wife and daughter, led a quiet life in a village in northern Lesvos. When they started noticing crowded boats crossing over from Turkey they would go and watch. There would be five to 11 boats a day, each one with 50-60 people from Syria, Eritria, Afghanistan and Somalia… just some of the 22,000 migrants that arrived on Lesvos so far this year.
