Supreme Court excludes far-right party from EU election ballot

Greece's Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that the far-right party Spartiates (Spartans) will be excluded from the upcoming European parliament elections. 

The Supreme court unveiled the final roster of parties that are set to compete on June 9 and deemed that the far-right party could not participate.

Parties’ electoral eligibility to be ruled on by end-May

The Supreme Court is expected to rule by the end of May on the eligibility of political parties contesting the June 9 European Parliament elections, including the far-right Spartiates (Spartans), who are being prosecuted for voter fraud.

The far-right party is accused of deceiving the electorate as to its real leadership.

Far-right MP quits Spartiates party after electoral fraud charge

Giorgos Manousos, a lawmaker with the far-right party Spartiates (Spartans) stepped down on Thursday, hours after the prosecutor of the Supreme Court brought charges of electoral fraud against eleven party lawmakers, including Manousos. 

The move was announced in a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas.
