James Bennet, the New York Times editorial page editor responsible for publishing a column that advocated using the military to quiet protests over U.S. racial inequality, resigned on June 7, the newspaper announced.

The White House has said it is preparing to end its subscription to the New York Times and Washington Post for government agencies.

The idea, announced by the Wall Street Journal, was justified in saving money, BNR reports.

Carr collapsed in the newsroom Thursday and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, the Times said.
