The Managing Director and owner of the Canaves Oia Santorini hotel Markos Haidemenos has won the international 'Hotelier of the Year' award at the 35th 'Virtuoso Travel Week' held in Las Vegas this August.

This is the first time a representative of a Greek company wins the award, further cementing Greece as a global tourist destination.

Göreme, a well-known tourist destination in central Turkey famous for its surreal landscape with intricate rock formations, has been ranked among the world's most beautiful towns in a list prepared by assessing their popularity across social media.

The Andronis Arcadia hotel on Santorini is one of the units that has been added to the portfolio of Preferred Hotels & Resorts members, ahead of what it calls an anticipated increase in holiday planning. 

Firefighters sent to put out a blaze that started in a hotel on the island of Santorini found the body of a man in its premises, the fire service said.

The hotel is located on the cliffside village of Oia.

The four firemen were able to extinguish the small blaze quickly, the fire service said, without providing further details on the body.

For Giorgos Georgoulas, an experienced tourism professional on the world-renowned Greek island of Santorini, this summer will be really tough for tourism.

"This is a tragic, a disastrous year. We will just try to cover a fraction of our expenses this summer," said Georgoulas, who runs a boat tour agency at Oia town on Santorini.

The government is mulling a list of measures proposed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to tackle overtourism on the popular island of Santorini, Kathimerini understands. 

As it celebrates its 20th anniversary since opening its first beach club, global luxury lifestyle and hospitality brand Nikki Beach opened on Thursday its Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Santorini under the Nikki Beach Hotels & Resorts division, the brand's second location in Greece.  

Canaves Oia Epitome, an all-villa boutique hotel located above the fishing village of Ammoudi in Santorini, the 2019 award for Best Resort Hotel in Europe, bestowed by the readers of the prestigious Travel + Leisure magazine. 

The boutique hotel was one of five Greek entries in the top 10, all of them on the popular island of Santorini.
