US embassy to cooperate with local environmental protection organization
Greek environmental organization Ecogenia announced on Wednesday its upcoming collaboration with the US Embassy in Greece within the framework of the "From California to Olympus" project, focusing on mobilizing young people to build it climate resilience at local level in the country, in a period when the climate crisis and natural disasters are a matter of the highest priority for Greece
Ecogenia forging a legacy of stewardship
Ecogenia is heading to Mount Olympus and invites you to help them reach the peak! In spring 2024, the team will again be putting boots on the ground to lead their first disaster management pilot. This project will combine ecotourism program impact (trail maintenance and revitalization work) with disaster management (wildfire fuel reduction, fire breaks, community engagement).

Şahika Ercümen performs special dive to mark centenary
Renowned national diver Şahika Ercümen, who holds dozens of world and national records, has performed a free dive in the country's tourism hub Antalya to mark the 100th anniversary of the republic.
Setting out from Konyaaltı Beach by boat, Ercümen embarked on a free dive, resurfacing with a banner displaying the message "The Republic of Türkiye is 100 years old."
Historical city in Olympus comes to light
New finds have been unearthed during archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Olympus in Antalya's Kumluca district.
The excavation and restoration work that started in the new season have made the ancient city an important center of the Lycian region in terms of mosaic flooring.

The lure of traditional summer festivals
Every summer, festivals on the Greek islands and the mainland begin in late June and end on August 15 with the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, like in Olympos on Karpathos (pictured). With feasts and dances celebrating customs and tradition, the festivals bring together locals and visitors, while there has also been a trend recently of young people returning to them.

A wildfire has erupted on the slopes of Mt Olympus, near the village of Karya, authorities say.
Firefighters have been joined by volunteers and, because of the rugged terrain, a helicopter.

Evia proves popular with subsidized tourism voucher recipients
Greece's employment agencies disbursed nearly 103,000 vouchers for accommodation in July, allowing people on incomes below €30,000 to enjoy a few days of subsidized vacation.
The most popular destinations were the island of Evia, where nearly 10% of the vouchers were used, followed by the Halkidiki peninsula, in the north, and the regional unit of Pieria, at the foot of Mt Olympus.
People return from coastal towns as Eid al-Adha holiday ends
Instanbulites who left the city to vacation at coastal towns during the nine-day-long Eid al-Adha holiday are now heading back as the holiday ends, creating traffic congestion on some highways.
Olympus eyes UNESCO list
Greece has submitted the nomination file of Mount Olympus for inclusion in UNESCO's list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites.
"Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in our country, is linked to ancient mythology, to Homer, to the history of Greece throughout the centuries. The home of the gods is one of the strongest Greek brand names," said Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
