THE HAGUE/SARAJEVO - Former Republika Srpska President Radovan Karadzic on Monday appealed a conviction by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) sentencing him to 40 years in prison over the Srebrenica genocide and crimes against humanity in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995.

THE HAGUE - Ratko Mladic was a key figure in the Srebrenica massacre of Muslims and a joint criminal enterprise aimed at forcibly creating a Serb state in large portions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, prosecutors of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said Monday at the beginning of their closing argument, four years after the start of Mladic's trial.

Greece soccer officials have apologized to the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina after a fan's banner referred to the Srebrenica massacre at a World Cup qualifying match.

In a statement Monday, the Greek soccer federation condemned the "unacceptable posting of a banner with fascist content ... which it condemns in the most absolute and categorical way."

Srebrenica massacre victims’ associations have filed a criminal complaint alleging that electoral law was violated during this month’s municipal polls which gave the town its first post-war Serb mayor.

Turkey's claim that its regional foreign policy is not sectarian "at all" is as convincing as its government's claims over the past few years that the Turkish state is "at a strictly equal distance" from every faith, including citizens with no faith at all.

BELGRADE - With almost 90 percent of votes counted, it is clear that the new mayor of Srebrenica will be Mladen Grujicic, RFE/RL reports.

As of October 7, his lead looked unassailable, with 3,957 votes against 1,645 cast for his opponent, Camil Durakovic. Durakovic was relying on the Bosniak expatriate vote, but even that will not be enough.

As tensions rise in Bosnia and the Balkans, the Mayor of the Bosnian town of Srebrenica and Serbia's Prime Minister spoke together in New York on Tuesday on the difficulty of promoting relationships between Bosniaks and Serbs.

In order to prevent potential unrest, the trial of a Serb victims’ association leader for inciting hatred by describing the Srebrenica genocide as “God’s justice” will be held behind closed doors.

Husein Kavazovic has said that there would be "no reconciliation in Bosnia-Herzegovina until genocide in Srebrenica is recognized."

The head of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia-Herzegovina spoke for the N1 broadcaster, Beta agency reported on Tuesday.
