Scottish Prime Minister announces referendum on independence from the United Kingdom

The referendum will happen if Sturgeon wins the Scottish elections scheduled for May.
Such a move would bring her into conflict with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who opposes a new vote on secession, reports the AP.
Scotland voted to stay in the UK with 55% to 45% in the 2014 referendum.

Scottish Parliament votes to hold second independence referendum

The Scottish Parliament has backed Nicola Sturgeon’s call for a second independence referendum in a vote that could lead to Scotland separating from the UK. With 69 votes in favour of her proposal and 59 against, the Scottish First Minister ensured the mandate for a second referendum to take place between 2018 and 2019.

Support for Independence High in Scotland, EU Popularity Plummets

When answering a question whether they prefer independence, self-government within the framework of the United Kingdom or not to have a Scottish Parliament at all, 46% of the Scottish people said independence. This is the highest rate of support for the separation of Scotland since 1999 when the idea was put forward for the first time.

Scotland To Seek Second Independence Referendum

Scotland will begin consultations on a second referendum on independence, announced the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon.

At a party conference in Glasgow, Sturgeon pointed out that a draft bill on the project will be published next week. It will be the first step towards a new referendum, reported BBC.

Sturgeon says Scottish independence vote likely if she wins election

Scottish nationalist leader Nicola Sturgeon said a second referendum on independence was "more likely than not" in the next five years if she wins an election on May 5 as polls predict.

The pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) had said  it would not press for another vote on independence until it was clear most Scots wanted to leave the United Kingdom.
