Bucharest Police question nurses, assistants over deadly Matei Bals hospital fire

Two nurses and two nursing assistants of the Matei Bals hospital who were on duty at the ward where a fire broke out that killed five patients were questioned on Friday at the Bucharest Police headquarters. According to lawyer for the Matei Bals hospital Constantin Durgeru, the two assistants tried to put out the fire and managed to stop the oxygen supply, avoiding an explosion.

Trials of New Anti-Covid Drug Launched in UK

A large-scale trial of a new treatment has begun in the UK, with high hopes of helping Covid-19 patients stop developing serious illness.

The new treatment involves inhaling a protein called Interferon Beta, which the body produces in infection.

The hope is that this will stimulate the immune system and the cells will be prepared to fight viruses.

Coronavirus: 445 new cases, 36 deaths

Greek health authorities have announced 445 cases of the coronavirus over the 24-hour period ending at 3 p.m. Sunday, along with 36 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, there have been 144,738 confirmed infections and 5,263 fatalities.

There are 353 patients on ventilators in intensive care units, while 954 have exited intensive care.

Coronavirus: 721 new cases, 49 deaths

Greek authorities announced 721 new cases of coronavirus and 49 fatalities over the past 24 hours Friday.

Greece's total number of confirmed coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic is now 143,494, with 5,195 dead.

A total of 386 patients remain on ventilators in intensive care units while 950 have left ICU.

597 new coronavirus cases; 43 deaths

Greek health authorities have announced 597 new coronavirus cases over the past day, along with 43 deaths.

There are also 429 patients on ventilators, while 893 have exited intensive care units.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in February 2020, there have been 139,447 confirmed infections and 4,881 fatalities.

Import of PPE and medical equipment in Jan-Sept six times higher than in 2019

Ljubljana – Slovenia imported six times more personal protective and medical equipment in the first nine months of 2020 than in the whole of 2019, the Statistics Office has said.

Slovenia imported EUR 175 million worth of protective and medical equipment between January and September, which was also seven times more than in the entire 2018.

Deaths and intubated patient numbers dip

The number of coronavirus-related deaths and critical Covid-19 patients who are on ventilators dropped on Thursday, though the contraction in new infections was only slight.

In its daily bulletin on Thursday, the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) announced 78 deaths in the 24-hour period, an improvement from Wednesday's and Tuesday's toll of 85 and 98, respectively.
