Bulgaria celebrates the national holiday - 140 years since the liberation from Ottoman Rule. On March 3 (February 19th in old style), in 1878, the San Stefano Peace Treaty between Russia and the Ottoman Empire was signed, which provides for the rebuilding of Bulgaria. Independence was proclaimed thirty years later - on September 22 (October 5 in a new style) 1908.

Since today the districts of Vidin and Stara Zagora are also in a flu epidemic, according to bTV. 

Until 26 January, the students  in the Stara Zagora region and the Bobov Dol district are in flu holiday, and due to a high incidence of influenza, it was instructed not to hold classes for the same period and two schools in Dupnitsa.

Unemployment in Bulgaria marked a record low, while at the same time economists report high employment for 2017.

Every second Bulgarian in working age worked in 2017. More than 3 million and 225 thousand people were employed in the third quarter of the year.

Economists say the reason is the growth of the economy by nearly 4%.

The Stara Zagora Municipality building was evacuated because of a broken gas pipeline in the center of the city. There were no injured people in the incident, the city police said.

Torrential rain in Stara Zagora has caused traffic problems this morning. One of the main boulevards in the town - "Slavianski" - remained impassable. The level of the water was about 50 centimeters, reports BNT. 

A key meeting of the municipal council in Stara Zagora about the fate of Bedechka Park will be held today. The council will discuss a change to the City's Master Plan in the area, reports Sega. 

Several proposals have been submitted for consideration, the best in view of preserving the trees and the rest of the vegetation is that of Mayor Zhivko Todorov.

 Valentin Donchevski - an artist from Stara Zagora was honored at a forum in Paris.

Prestigious awards in science, art and literature have been awarded since 1915, reported bTV. 

Valentin Donchevski is the second Bulgarian artist to receive distinction from the Art Senz Lethrenz Association of the French Academic Community.

Residents and guests of Stara Zagora witnessed a unique spectacle of sound and light in the open last night. It is titled "Prayer for Stara Zagora" and culminates in the events dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the fierce fighting in the city during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877. Reports BNT.

In 1877 four Bulgarian volunteers and Russian soldiers defended Stara Zagora and the Samaritan flag against the four-fold part of the Central Turkish Army.
