Facebook, Instagram in EU crosshairs for election disinformation
Meta Platforms' Facebook and Instagram have failed to tackle deceptive advertising and disinformation in the run-up to European Parliament elections, the European Commission said on Tuesday as it opened an investigation into suspected breaches of EU online content rules.
Meta more than doubles profit in first quarter
Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta has said its first-quarter profit more than doubled, boosted by higher advertising revenue and a 6 percent increase on the average price of ads on its platforms.
But its shares dropped sharply in after-hours trading following lukewarm revenue guidance.

Meta to temporarily close Threads network in Türkiye
Facebook parent company Meta said on April 15 it would "temporarily" shut down its Threads short-messaging service in Türkiye from April 29 after an order from Ankara's competition watchdog over data-sharing.

Japan's royal family is now on Instagram but don't expect any candid selfies from its official account, which went live yesterday in a cautious social media debut for the ancient monarchy.
The first 19 posts are formally staged photos and videos of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako carrying out royal duties at recent public appearances.
