Takis Tloupas: Stories from the basement

Rare Super 8 footage captured between 1950 and 1980 by Takis Tloupas and unearthed in the basement of his Larissa home by director Kalliopi Legaki inspired her to explore the life of the photographer who gained renown for his black-and-white images of life in the Thessalian city and countryside. The resulting film, titled "My Father's Studio," "is not a portrait," the director says.

Elementary schools, day care facilities to reopen June 1

It is official: primary schools, preschools and day care facilities will re-open on Monday, June 1st.

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas announced Sunday that the Commission on Public Health Cases from Virulent Factors has unanimously recommended that the above facilities re-open.

The school year is extended to late June.

Innovative sculptor Takis dies

Greek sculptor Takis, whose art was defined by the use of light and electromagneticism, died Friday at his home in Gerovouno, north of Athens, at the age of 93. Born Panagiotis Vasilakis, he served in the Greek resistance to the Nazi occupation and lived through the civil war that ensued. He moved to Paris in 1954.

Greek PM extends condolences over Takis’ death

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has extended his condolences to the family of the innovative Greek sculptor Takis who died at the age of 93.
In a tweet, Mitsotakis described Takis as a "worldwide Greek. A pioneer, heretical, inexhaustibly creative, he opened new avenues in art."
The artist's death was announced Friday by the foundation that bears his name.

World-renowned Greek sculptor and installation artist Takis has died, the art and science research foundation he founded in 1986 has announced. He was 93 years old.

Born Panagiotis Vasilakis in Athens in 1925, Takis moved to Paris in the 1950s to pursue his passion and create his first kinetic sculptures, which are the subject of an ongoing exhibition at the Tate in London.
