Home textile exports hit $5 billion

The Turkish home textile industry's export revenues stood at $5 billion last year, according to Hasan Hüseyin Bayram, head of the Home Textile Association (TETSİAD).

Local and international home textile companies met at the HOMETEX fair, which is being held between May 16 and 20.

This fair is expected to boost exports by 20 to 25 percent, said Bayram.

Pandemic takes heavy toll on textile firms

After having survived Greece's protracted financial crisis, albeit taking some powerful blows, the textile industry is now going under due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Up until a fortnight ago it still remained a dynamic part of the country's export industry, representing 10 percent of total manufacturing exports, channeling 70 percent of its production to international markets.

Major increase in apparel exports recorded in H1

Greek apparel exports enjoyed a significant rise of 39 percent in the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2018, according to data published by the Hellenic Fashion Industry Association (SEPEE).

The total value of Greek clothing exports in January-June amounted to 453 million euros, against 325 million a year earlier.

Turkey one of best cotton producers but production declining: Association

Turkey produces some of the best quality cotton in the world, but its production volume has been declining, said the head of the Home Textiles Industry and Business Association (TES?AD) in a written statement. 

"Turkey produces one of the world's highest quality cotton. Our cotton production must increase up to 4 million tons by 2023," said TES?AD head Ya?ar Küçükçal?k.
