13-year-old Turkish pianist wins competition in Germany

A 13-year-old Turkish student has won the International Pianele Piano Competition in Germany, becoming the youngest pianist ever to achieve this feat.

Arya Su Gülenç from the northwestern province of Bursa was one of the four winners of the competition held in Fulda, Germany, on Aug. 6, as she was hailed as a "Wonder Child" in the German press.

ABBA songs by IBB Orchestra

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) City Orchestra will give a concert on Feb 10 at the Cemal Reşit Rey (CRR) Concert Hall, performing the songs of the legendary pop group ABBA. The concert, to be conducted by Üstüner Büyükgönenç, will begin at 8 pm. The event is free of charge.

Anatolian quintet to present ‘Tangology’

The Anatolian Wind Quintet, which aims to show the polyphony of Anatolia to the world, will take the stage at the Cemal Reşit Rey (CRR) Concert Hall on Dec 12 to present their project called 'Tangology.'

During the event, the process from the birth of tango culture to the present will be presented to art lovers with a chronological narrative.

Veteran composer Muammer Sun dies at 89

Professor Muammer Sun, a doyen composer and educator who made several contributions to the development of Contemporary Polyphonic Turkish Music, passed away on Jan. 16 at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Hospital due to multiple organ failure. He was 89.

He was taken to the hospital on the night of Jan. 15 for his treatment.

Timple player to perform at CRR

German Lopez, a timple player from Gran Canaria, will greet music lovers on March 23 at the Cemal Reşit Rey (CRR) Concert Hall in Istanbul at 8 p.m. The timple is known as a five-string instrument unique to Gran Canaria. Lopez has performed in various festivals around the world, playing folk, jazz, classical, funk and flamenco music with his instrument.
